Two ways to see it. Every room.

You shouldn’t have to imagine it. You get to choose it.

For every room, we design your space two ways from one inspiration — the same room with meaningful tweaks, both fully us — and you choose the one you love most. It’s how you move forward with total confidence, never wondering “what if.” The guesswork is ours. The choice is yours.

Who you’re hiring

We’re Shelby and Michelle.

A mother-daughter design team working out of Dallas. We approach every project the way we approach our own homes — with care, with patience, and with the belief that a home should feel warm, collected, and entirely yours.

We started designing together years ago because we couldn’t stop rearranging our own homes. FHL Design Co is what it became once clients started asking us to design theirs too — timeless spaces with character, built to be lived in, not just photographed.

We take on a small number of projects at a time so every client gets the attention the work deserves. One team (well — two), start to finish.

What you get when you hire us

Inside the process.

You shouldn’t have to wonder what a design package looks like. Every Full Service client receives materials like these — renderings, concept boards, and plans — so you can actually see your home before it exists. Your Design Plan delivers a focused version for a single room.

Photorealistic rendering

See it before it’s built.

Every key space is rendered in 3D so you know what you’re signing off on. No guessing, no surprises — just a clear picture of the finished room.

Concept direction

The feeling, captured.

Before a single piece is ordered, you see the palette, the materials, and the mood — so the whole project stays anchored to one clear vision.

Plans + specifications

Every detail, documented.

Space plans, finish schedules, spec sheets — the working documents your builder, tradespeople, and vendors use. Nothing gets lost in translation.

This is what you get when you start with a consultation. Book yours.

Before you ask

Common questions.

Do I get a say in the final design?

Absolutely — more than most studios offer. For every room, we design your space two ways — the same room with meaningful tweaks — and you choose the one you love most. You’re never handed a single take-it-or-leave-it design; you’re choosing between two we’d be proud to build, so you move forward with real confidence.

How do I know which service is right for me?

If you want to refresh a single room and execute it yourself, start with the Consultation — ninety minutes with Shelby will tell you what the space needs, and the fee credits back if you book a Design Plan within 30 days. For new builds and full renovations, join the Full Service waitlist (or request a complimentary 30-minute discovery call) instead.

What does a project typically cost?

A Design Plan is $1,800 per room for the design. Full Service projects are quoted after a discovery call and vary based on scope and square footage. In both cases, product costs (lighting, tile, finishes, furniture, materials) are separate and fully yours to approve. If budget is the main question, the Consultation is the right first step — we’ll be honest about what your budget can do.

Will I get furniture and finish selections?

Yes. Your Design Plan includes our curated furniture and finish selections — chosen from quality, designer-trusted vendors with your budget in mind. The plan doesn’t include the physical products themselves; instead, you receive direct links to the suggested furnishings and recommended finishes, so you can purchase them and bring the design to life on your own timeline.

Do you shop for us?

For a Design Plan, you get a curated, shoppable sourcing list with direct links to every piece. You place the orders and install on your own timeline. For Full Service, we manage sourcing and procurement directly as part of the project.

How does the Full Service waitlist work?

We take a limited number of full renovations and new builds each season so every home gets our full attention. Join the waitlist and you’ll get first access — plus a complimentary discovery call — when a spot opens. It’s the front door for our most involved work.

Do you work outside of Dallas?

Yes. Most of our design work can happen entirely virtually, so we can work with you anywhere. When a project calls for us on-site beyond the Dallas area, we’re happy to travel for an additional fee as needed.

How long does a project take?

A Design Plan typically takes 3–6 weeks, depending on the level of detail. If your project includes a renovation, the build itself can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months — that part depends on your contractor and the scale of the work. For Full Service, we set a specific timeline together at the proposal stage.

Can I just pick your brain?

That’s what the Consultation is for. It’s priced so we can give you real, specific answers — not a sales pitch — and you walk away with a plan whether or not we work together further.

What’s your style?

Vintage mixed with new. Personality and character, but peaceful — never busy. We design homes that feel like they’ve been collected over decades, even when every piece is new.

How do I start?

For a single room you’ll execute yourself, book a Consultation — paid, Fridays only, and the fee credits toward a Design Plan if you book within 30 days. For new builds and full renovations, join the Full Service waitlist (or request a complimentary discovery call). Either way, the buttons on this page are the front door.

What happens if we want to move forward after the Consultation?

We’ll send a proposal within 48 hours laying out scope, timeline, and investment. If you sign and pay the deposit, your consultation fee credits back toward your project. Then we kick off.

What’s the payment structure?

For projects under $15K, we collect 50% to secure the project and 50% at completion. For larger projects we use milestone payments — usually 50% at signing, 25% at mid-point, 25% at install.

Do you offer hourly or à la carte services?

We don’t. We’ve found that flat-fee work removes the anxiety of “is the clock running?” for you, and lets us give the project the attention it deserves. If your project doesn’t fit a Design Plan or Full Service cleanly, the Consultation is the right first step.

Kind words

Loved by the people who live here.

“Shelby and Michelle were fantastic to work with. We did our design virtually since we are in Indiana, but the distance did not hamper the final product. We have received so many positive comments about the look of our new home. I would trust them with any of my design projects going forward!”

Melissa Clark

“I cannot say enough wonderful things about the work Shelby and Michelle did on our home. From the very beginning, they listened to our vision and brought it to life in a way that exceeded every expectation. Their attention to detail, creativity, and ability to know my style when I had trouble knowing it myself was amazing. They made the entire process enjoyable. I highly recommend FHL Design Co. to anyone looking for a designer.”

Tammy Ramirez

“FHL Design is the most incredible design studio. Not only did they design our cabin and capture its moody vibe, they were incredible to work with — helping source all the extras and bring together a beautiful end product. The whole experience was so life-giving. We are completely satisfied and overjoyed. Perfection!”
